The Frenchman forced the pace from the start and repeatedly forced the Englishman to retreat, although he fought pluckily. Berg’s left eyebrow was badly swollen. He may be unable to play this season. The players agree that the delivery by Martindale which caused the injury was not body-line, but there are some hints: that the tour of West Indies was not always marked by the most amicable spirit.
