LAVISH AND SPECTACULAR
1 CLEOPATRA ’ FOR REGENT Once again the glory and splendour of Rome, with its glittering pomp and pageantry, is produced on the screen in the spectacular Paramount production ‘ Cleopatra,’ which will commence a season at the Regent. However, it is not merely a succession of elaborate scenes, for the keynote is the storied romance between Marc Antony and Cleopatra. Produced by Cecil B. De Millc, who is noted for his previous spectacles ‘ The Ten Commandments,’ ‘ Ben Hur,’ and ‘ The Sign of the Cross,’ the film has the added advantages of sound and modern, technique. It is some time since such an elaborate background has been employed, for the story deals with the desperate battles between Rome and Egypt, in which the audience will be astounded by giant’ war galleys hurling balls of fire, thrilling clashes of numerous chariots, and exciting struggles between hosts of grim fighters. An excellent performance is given by Claudette Colbert in the title role. Cither leading parts are taken by Warren William, Henry Wilcoxon, and C. Aubrey Smith.
