LORD DERBY AND DIET.

The Early of Derby confessed recently that he periodically took “ slimming ” treatment—but invariably returned afterwards to his “ old bad habits.” He was opening as president of the Manchester Royal Infirmary a new dietetic department, the gift of the Sketton Trustees, and an extension to the X-ray department made possible by a gift of £3,000 by Mr* Robert M‘Donga!. “In former years,” he said, “I used to go to watering places abroad. For the past eight years I have gone instead to Ruthin Castlo in North Wales, where they give you no medicine, but diet j r ou. I have found it infinitely better to eat less food than to drink much foreign water. “I realise to the full when I am there how much too much I eat—but I am bound to say that when I leave there I teturn to my old bad habits.” Replying to a vote of thanks. Lord Derby Said that the only phrase in it to which he took exception was “ hird Derby brought his greater weight to bear.” (Laughter.)
