DEGREASE IN MARRIAGES The decrease in the number of marriages solemnised during March as compared with those for the corresponding period of last year is accounted for by the fact that Raster (always a popular period for the celebration of marriages) fell in March last year.. vital statistics for the month ended to-day are as follows, the figures for the period of last year being given in parentheses:—Births, 94 (109); deaths, 79' (82); marriages, 71 (114), The figures for the quarter ended today are as follows: Births, 294 (323); deaths, 214 (215); marriages, 167 (240). The marriages performed by the registrar during the quarter were twenty-four as compared with thirtyscvni for the corresponding period of last year*
