DEVELOPMENT OF ANTARCTICA
RICH POTENTIALITIES UNEX* PLOITED PRACTICAL LEAD FROM SIR MACPHERSON ROBERTSON Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, March 29. (Received March 30, at noon;. Sir M'acphorson Robertson told the ' Sun-Hcrald ’ service that he intends to start a movement' to develop Antarctica. “ Sir Douglas Mawson told me,” he said, -l that Antarctica has all the potentialities of Alaska, from which the United States made hundreds of millions of pounds after Britain had rejected the opportunity to buy it. I will first endeavour to initiate British whaling in Antarctica in view of the danger of Japan too firmly establishing herself there. I am prepared to back a suitable enterprise financially, because I feel that whaling can be made the spearhead of intensive development.”
