The London Rowing Club crew, which recently won the Melbourne Centenary eight-oar contest, has presented its Sims racing boat to the Victorian Rowing Association. Eight-oared rowing has a very strong hold in Australia, and the Scots College crew has had a new clinker eight built by Edwards and Sons following thelines of the London crew’s boat. ' Trinity College (Melbourne University) has had a practice eight built by Jerram. in which many of the London boat’s ideas are combined. Instead of being clinker built, it is much the same as a best and best bodi although the “skin” is much thicker. This boat has proved a big improvement on the , ordinary practice clinker. . A pleasant little function took place in the players’ dressing room on the Melbourne Cricket Ground on n recent Saturday at the tea adjournment. On behalf of the New South Wales Cricket Association Mr Justice, Evatt presented Fleetwood-Smith with one of the balls, suitably mounted, with which he took fifteen "wickets in Sydney against New South Wales. It will no doubt be remembered that on that particular occasion he took seven for 113 in the first innings and eight for 113 in the second. The recipient made a modest response, giving the credit to his mates, whose team-work imparted confidence. It was a nice and thoughtful action on behalf of the Sydney authorities, a sporting gesture that knew no borders.
