GIRL GUIDE NOTES

• [By Guides.] CHIEF’S RALLY. • ; Various questions have come to hand regardingAthe length of time and Jlil “ ture of the performance of the final section of the pageant, when all companies and packs appear together. . This particular part will occupy about ten minutes, during which time the Chief 'Guide will walk among the groups and tee what they are doing, though naturally her time with each will be only a moment or so. Every company and pack has been notified as to what it is expected to do. If it is a game of some particular kind then it is for the to decide on the one they consider the moat spectacular. When the Cruet is not looking at it the public will be. Do things on as big a scale as possible. . There will not be opportunity for looking at details. Whatever the item to he done captains and Owls should choose the one they think best for such an occasion, and one that can be spiead Out over the time allowed. Companies are asked to bring with them pieces of material about ten inches square in their company colours fold handkerchiefs may be dyed, for the purpose). One will be required foi each Guide, and the reason explained on arrival. ■ . ~ It is very desirable that Guides travel with their belongings in a havertack rather than in suitcases. A coat will be necessary, at least for those coming from a distance, and for everyone a small individual ground sheet or piece of linoleum for sitting on. In a haversack these articles stand much less chance of getting lost, they are tidy, and carried on the hack, leave the hearer with free • hands for anything that is required of her, for instance, helping other people off the train. Brownies, at any. rate those. coming from outside Dunedin, - would also be better to have the same. The small haversacks supplied at headquarters are rather small for much luggage. It would be quite simple to make haversacks out of sugar bags, leaving them in the same colour for Brownies and dying them navy for Guides._ Many people will have haversacks in thenpossession. The colour is of no account. The haversack itself is the important matter. .. Guides remaining in town over tbe week-end need bring no clothes beside their uniform. ■ but may wear this the whole time. Navy or dark coats me preferable, but in no way_ compulsory. ■ Names of those requiring billeting must reach the provincial secretary by March .4 at latest. Names of Dunedin people willing to billet visiting Guides would he welcome bv the same date. The Chief Guide’will meet hud speak to Guiders on the evening of Friday. March 15. Guiders from the country will be specially welcome if they can make arrangements for someone to look after their Guides or Brownies in the train next day. Billeting can be arranged if necessary. Names of those hoping to attend should reach the provincial secretary by March ,6. Reduced railway fares have been arranged for those attending the rally, and these will be sent immediately to commissioners, from whom Guiders may receive the information. Captains should take note that the correct proportion for flags is to have the length twice the width. The cardhoard supplied for the purpose can bo cut accordingly. THINKING DAY PENNIES. It is desirable that these should be forwarded as soon as possible, so as to

have them away before the rally. Guiders arc therefore asked to send them to Miss Hay within the next few days. DUNEDIN DIVISION COMMITTEE. The first meeting lor the year of the Dunedin Division Committee was held on Februax-y 14 in the Guide rooms, Miss Blaekmore in the chair. The folhnving members were present: — Mesdames Clinch, Cook, Cumberbeaeh, Stewart, Wilson, White, Mains, Brookman, Kirkwood, Duke, Sim, Misses Stevenson, Croy, Sinclair. The comriiittee was interested to hear from Miss Blaekmore her impressions of the centenary rally and of Guiding in many countries. Miss Blaekmore explained in detail a new suggested system of district committees, which would be composed of representatives from company committees and presided over by the district commissioner. Each district would then send two representatives to the division committee, which would consist of the division commissioner, district commissioners, and their secretaries and district representatives This system, it was stated, was found to work very satisfactorily in other countries. After discussion, it was decided to leave the matter for final decision till the next meeting. The committee passed a vote of sympathy with Miss Gunn in her illness, and expressed a hope for her speedy tecovery. RALLY REHEARSALS. A rehearsal will be held at the Caledonian Ground on Saturday, March 9, at 5.30 p.m., for the Brownies, and at 6 p.m. for Guides. Colours must be brought. A full muster is eamestlv requested.
