Owing to the Bankes’s experience of breaking several oars, Oxford’s boat i» being fitted with Fletcher swivel rowlocks, which were invented thirty-five years ago but never generally adopted. A special oar for Bankes is being made of spruce, strengthened by a strip of ash.
