FOREIGN SHIPS MENAGE
URGENT QUESTION IN HOUSE [From Our Parliamentary Reporter.] WELLINGTON, February 27. In an urgent question to the Minister of Marine in the House, Mr Jordan sought to ascertain if the Government is taking prompt action to deal with the situation created by the withdrawal of two trans-Tasman passenger steamers on account of the competition of subsidised foreign shipping with New Zea-land-owned steamers. He reminded the Minister that recently another matter which was regarded as urgent, and concerned Australia and New Zealand, was dealt with by telephone between these countries, and simultaneous legislation arranged. Mr Cobbe replied that the question involved in competition between British and foreign subsidised shipping could hardly be settled in the manner suggested, but the • questioner could have the assurance that the matter was receiving the consideration from the Governments concerned which it undoubted! y deserved.
