UNEMPLOYMENT
SPECIAL RATION ALLOWANCE The City Council, the St. Kilda Borough, and the Mayor’s Relief Committee have approached the Unemployment Board witli a view to getting the reinstatement of the ration allowance for classes F, G, H, and 1, the reason being that, although these classes have had their weekly payments increased slightly through the discontinuance of ration relief, they are in a less fortunate position than before the new scheme came into operation. The only concession these bodies have been able to get from the board is that, during times of sickness in the family or when a recovery is being made from sickness, or in cases of impending confinement, the certifying officer can be approached for a special ration allowance. This was secured yesterday through Mr Bromley. HO. 7 DEPOT At the monthly meeting of the Mornington depot the sum of £l4 14 was passed for payment. This amount was expended to provide a free bag of coal as a Christmas gift from the funds of the depot. The committee voiced its protest to the central executive on account of the further economy; measures brought in and is of the opinion that this is not the time to ecohomise with funds supplied by the public. _ The committee considered that the time is overdue for creative functions for the purpose of increasing the general fun d, so as to eliminate any chance of the unemployed being in want during the winter months. GROUP TO REPORT . The reserves department group No, 606 will report for work at 8 a.m. tomorrow at the Opoho football ground.
