SCOUT NOTES

[By Caßir Wour.] These notes are published weekly on Thursday. All reports, etc., should be addressed to “ Grey Wolf ” and left in the letter box pit headquarters or posted to P.O, Box 75, Dunedin, to arrive not later than noon of previous Saturday. I am very disappointed in the response for ammunition for this column, and hope that this week I witl find some reports in the box. Scooters will be doing a good turn if they attend to this matter. VISIT OF CHIEF SCOUT. Will those Scouts picked to represent the Maori portion of the display make a special effort to attend practices —one can hardly become a Maori in a day. Combined church parade is to be postponed until the visit of the “ chiefs,” and will take place on Sunday, March 17. Further particulars later. TROOP AND PACK REPORTS. Ist Dunedin, Roslyn.—This group has now taken up work in earnest. G.S.M. Thomas has mapped out a very comprehensive programme for 1935, and all patrols are going to have a very interesting and busy time, as well as a lot of fun. A list of instructors for the various badges has been compiled, so there should be nothing to hinder the boys to work up for those badges they are interested in. The going-up ceremony of the Cubs takes place to-morrow. Those Cubs who are to advance status of Scouts please take note. Cubs are to be the guests of the committee at a picnic at Ross Creek Reservoir on Saturday, March 2. They will meet at the Scout Hall in full uniform at 1.45. There will be games and competitions, and tea at 5. Should the weather frown and ■be unsuitable for an outside entertainment it vVill be held in the hall. Ocean Beach. —This troop meets on Saturday at the hall, Victoria road, St. Kilda. An outing to the Passmore camp site has been arranged for next Saturday. Scouts and Cubs will'please be at the Scout Hall to catch the bus which leaves at 1.30, and- for those parents who cannot manage to meet at that time there will be a second bus at 2. Fare; Adults Is, children 6d. Mohicans.—A photograph will be taken to-morrow evening at 7. Please make a special effort to be present. Owaka. —The sixth annual camp of the Owaka, Scouts was held last month at the camping ground at Pounawea. The boys slept well after the first night, which is generally an unsettled one, and except for a few cases of influenza which happened to .be prevalent at the seaside, everyone voted the camp the best ever. After camp duties were finished for the day there was plenty of time for swimming, life saving, signalling, and compass work, also first aid instruction. Several full-day treks were taken and the glorious out-door life put all in the best of spirits. In the evenings informal concerts were held, and quiet talks on the fascinating game of scouting were enjoyed. At these we were pleased to welcome parents and our worthy troop chaplain.
