HINDU CHILD MARRIAGES ALLOWANCE IN FRENCH POSSESSION Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright CALCUTTA, February 20. The Government of India is considering the question of officially protesting against the French Government s action in permitting marriages between children from British India, which occur in Chandernagore, which, it is declared, has been converted into an Indian Gretna Green for Bengal. Bihar, and Assam. Hundreds of Hindu child marriages are being performed every month, all the arrangements being made by well-financed organisations. [Chandernagore (the city of Sandalwood) is a French possession. It stands on the banks of the Hoogli twenty-two miles from Calcutta.]
