NOTES ON THE RACING. [By St. Clair.] After a dull morning the weather gradually cleared, and after the first two races it became vei - y hot on the Gore racecourse, where the Summer Meeting of the Gore Racing Club commenced. A few good showers overnight improved the course, and the going was both good and fast. There was an excellent attendance, and the gate receipts showed an increase of £27 10s on the receipts from this source on the corresponding day last year. The fields were good, and throughout the afternoon the racing was interesting, but backers of first favourites had a bad day, and during the afternoon several big dividends were'returned. The totalisators, working under the usual win and place system, handled £7,772 10s, (£3,817 win, £3,955 10s place) as against £7,216 last year, when the machines were worked the same, an increase of £556 10s,

Mr M‘lvor’s starting was good, and punctuality closely observed. After the Racing Club Handicap, the Judicial Committee met to considei alleged interferences sustained by Last Link when passing the four furlong post and again at tne two furlong post, but decided that there was not sufficient evidence to warrant any action being taken. . Thornton £o7* and £72, Miliord £4fa aand £43*, Valiska £3B* and £6l*, and Broken Rule £2si and £39* were the best backed for the Gore Iligh-weight and Hack Handicap. Milford and Dressy led through the straight and running into the back stretch, this pair were racing clear of Valiska and Johnny, with Broken Rule whipping in the field. At the far turn, about four furlongs from home, Milford was in charge from Dressy, Johnny, and the favourite, with Broken Rule still last. Racing across the top, Thornton ran to the front, and was first into the straight from Milford, with Dressy and Johnny next. The favourite ran home a very comfortable winner by threequarters of a length from Milford, three lengths further back Broken Rule, Dressy, and Miss Winston finished almost in line and the judge placed them as above. Braw Lad ivas next.

Final Bell (£l2s* and £77*), Moneygran (£69 and £69), Bowlands (£44 and £69*), and Bay Biddy (£42 and £59) weVe best fancied for the Longford Hack Handicap. Both Bay Biddy and Island Linnet missed the jump out, and M'Nah and Final Bell were the smartest to show out. At the end of a furlong Moneygran ran into second place, and joined M'Nah at the halfmile, the pair running tAvo lengths in front of Final 8011, with Conca D Oro and Rowlands at the head of the others. M'Nah headed Moneygran racing across the top, and Avas first into the straight from Moneygran, Final Bell, and BoAvlands. Final Bell ran to the front at the distance, and beat BoAvlands home by a length and a-half. Bay Biddy finished fast from the home turn and was a similar distance away third, just in front of Acla. M'Nab and Moneygran were next. Osculate (£2oß* and £ll3*), Steeton (£l26* and £lo7*), Totolomai (£47 and £62*), and Signaller (£3B and £44) were the best backed in the Racing Club Handicap. Steeton gave trouble at the start, and Avas last to leave the harrier. Vonite led Last Link, Totolomai, and Osculate through the straight, and, racing along the back, was tAvo lengths clear of Last Link and Totolomai who were racing together with the favourite nest. There 'was little change until approaching the home turn, where Venite was about two and a-half lengths in front of Totolomai, Avith Osculate and Steeton next. The last-named made a good challenge at the distance, but the lightlyweighted Vonite was not to be caught, and won by a length and a-half from Signaller, avlao got up to beat Steeton by half a length. Totolomai and Osculate Avere next. ' The Royal Drive-Pacha bracket (£167 and £l27*), Blue Spark (£Bs* and £B3*), Desert Cloud (£4O and £3l*), Autogo (£27* and £59), and Silver Guy (£22 and £44*) were the best backed for the Electric Harness Trot. Royal Drive was one of those to go away slowly, and he lost about 50yds before he settled down. Firecrest led out from Seamark and Autogo, and at the end of half a mile Firecrest was closely attended by Worthy Claire, Autogo, and Gold Valley. These formed the leading division to the far turn, then Firecrest dropped out and Worthy Clairo led Autogo, Royal Drive, and Seamark across the top and into the straight, the quartet racing in close order. Royal Drive finished on the best, and in an exciting run to the post he beat Autogo by a length, with Worthy Claire a head oft third, and Gold Valley, Seamark, Desert Cloud, and Silver Guy were close up in that order. Waipounamu (£96 and £100*), Clatter (£ss* and £6s*), Foreign Star (£45 and £57), Linguist (£3B* and £52), Maniototo (£37* and £29*), and Golden Cap (£2B* and £33*) were _ the best backed for the Novice Handicap. From a good start Clatter and Dissemble Avere the first to break the line, and after a furlong had been covered Dissemble Avas showing the way to Clatter, Silver Issue, Ballad, Gold Fox, and Waipounamu. Dissemble remained in charge racing across the top, and Avas followed by Clatter, Silver Issue, and Gold Fox into the straight. The latter made a good run from the distance and got up to beat Silver Issue by half a length. Dissemble Avas a short length away third, and folloAved by Clatter, Obligement, Maniototo, and Ballad. Grecian Prince (£ls9* and £6B), Cherry Queen (£l2B* and £B7*), and Beam (£9l and £62*) were the best backed in the Croydon Handicap. All got well aAvay from a prompt start, Cherry Queen at once taking charge, and led Beam, Enwood, and Grecian Prince along the back. After rounding the far turn Beam ran up to Cherry Queen, and led her and Enwood into the straight. Beam looked all over a winner at the distance, but Enwood put in a good run and beat her home half a length. Grand Final© was four lengths aAvay third, just in front of Double Shot. Grecian Prince was next. Embark (£l9B and £l22*), Gold Salute (£164 and £120), Ready Money —Bingen Wrack bracket (£lll* and £l2l*), Vologda (£74* and £80*), and Moko Child (£3B‘ and £ss*) were the best backed for the Progressive Harness Trot. Sir Gowan and Nelson’s Fortune were slow away, and Embark led out from Fair Haven, Gold Salute, and Ready Money. At the end of half a mile Embark was just in front of Fair Haven, Gold Salute, Ready Money, Single Lee, and Dame Fortune, the field racing in close order. Racing along the back, Embark was still in charge, with Gold Salute. Fair Haven, Dame Fortune, and Vologda in close attendance, and they made the far turn in this order. Embark Avas first into the straight from Gold Salute, Ready Money, Dame Fortune, and Vologda, and in a splendid race to the post Dame Fortune beat Ready Money by a length, with Vologda a length and a-half off third. Moko Child, Embark, and Gold Salute were next. Galleon (£245* and £l32*), Broken Rule (£97 and £80*), Mayam (£B6* and £79), and Honest Maid (£B3* and £81J) were the best backed for the Summer Hack Handicap. From an excellent despatch Mayam and Impala led Pompax out of the straight, then Impala took charge, and led Mayam. Pompax, and Young Sentinel into the back stretch. The last named ran up and joined Impala passing the six-fui-iong post, the pair sboAving the Avay to Pompax, Mayam, and Thornton to the far turn, the favourite whipping in the field. Impala led across the top. and was first into the straight from Young Sentinel, Pompax, and Mayam; and Galleon them commenced to move up. Young Sentinel was done with before reaching the distance, and Impala leaving the rails gave Mayam room to get through. Finishing on strongly, Mayam heat Impala by a length, and Galleon was three-quarters of a length further back. Honest Maid and Thornton were next. , ' 1
