CAMP FIRE WELCOME
CHIEF SCOUT AT HASTINGS [Per United Press Association.] HASTINGS, February 20. A camp fire welcome, attended by some hundreds of Boy Scouts and Gir) Guides, was given to Lord BadenPowell at Beatson’s Park this even ing. Besides a large representation o) the town and the surrounding districts, there were large contingents from Napier, Manawatu, and the smaller towns of Hawke’s Bay. Great interest was shown by the public. Commissioner Cooksey was in charge of the proceedings, and speeches oi welcome wore made by the Deputymayor of Hastings (Mr A. I. Rainbow) and the Mayor of Napier (Mr C. 0Morse). _ , , The evening was spent in true Scout fashion, and the public was entertained with a programme of hakes, Scout erics, and chorus singing. In honour of his seventy-eighth birthday on Friday. Lord Baden-Powell was presented with a New Zealand rug, which he promptly draped about himself before making a speech of thanks. His informal manner and his vigorous utterance and geniality made a great impression on everyone present.
