FORBURY PARK TROTS

Successful Summer Meeting

Wild Guy and Great Logan Again

The Forbury Park Trotting Club was favoured with one of Dunedin’s best summer days for the conclusion of the Summer Meeting on Saturday afternoon, and the good programme attracted one of the largest crowds seen at Forbury Park for some years. The course was in much the same condition as on Thursday, but the absence of wind made the times recorded faster, and again the racing was high class, several of the finishes being close enough to arouse the crowd to a high pitch of enthusiasm. Horses that raced prominently on the first day were again in the limelight, no fewer than seven of the winners on Saturday having either won or been placed on Thursday, and Sonoma King, Wild Guy, and Great Logan repeated their winning performances. Totalisator investments showed an increase of £9,132 10s, equal to over 38 per cent, on the amount handled at this meeting last year. The figures for each machine each day were:—

75-25 p.c. Place. Total. Thursday £10,978 £4,973 £15,951 Saturday £15,378*. £9,999* £25,378

£26,35§* £14,972*. £41,329

Last year £12,809 was handled on the first day and £19,387 10s on the second day, making a total of £32,196 10s. The system adopted by.j the club on this occasion appears to supply the requirements of the racing public better than any other that has yet been_ tried out, and on Saturday the proportion of investments on the place machine increased from 31 per cent, on Thursday to 39 per cent, of the turnover. The meeting was excellently managed, but punctuality was not as closely observed as many country patrons dependent on trains would have liked, as the last race was just on half an hour late in starting. The result from the financial point of view will be most satisfactory, and both from this aspect and good racing the meeting was one of the best the club has held for some years.

(Eureka Boy was first into the straight from Dusolina, with Great Logan on the outside and Cloudy Range on the rails travelling very fast. Opposite the lawn stand Great Logan was in charge, and he just lasted long enough to get the verdict, the judge said, by half a length, but it looked much shorter, from the fast-finishiug Cloudy Range and Dusolina, who was the rank outsider of the field, a head away third. Avernus was ; almost in line fourth, with Elvo and Eureka Boy next. Times: 2min 45 4-ssec, 2min -ISsec, 2min 49 l-ssec.
