ZENITH CLUB'S ANNUAL CARNIVAL

A programme of unusual interest lias been drawn up for the Zenith Swimming Club’s carnival, which will be held at the Y.M.C.A. Baths to-morrow, evening, commencing at 7.45. Otago’s speediest swimmers have sent in record entries, and oxciting swimming seems to be assured. Entries have been received not only from the local clubs— Kiwi, Dunedin,•■Zenith,- St. Clair, St. Kilda, Kaikorai, and University—but also from clubs as far distant a? Oamaru, Milton, and South Canterbury. Competition promises to be exceptionally keen, especially in the open events. In the 50yds dash event sixty-eight of Otago’s fastest sprinters will face the starter, and in the 160yds four-a-side relay event twenty-six teams will contest the issue. Particular interest should attach to the Zenith Club’s novice handicap, in which no fewer than thirty-two. swimmers will prove the value of their coaching. The ladies have been catered for by the inclusion in the programme of a ladies’ 80yds dual relay, as well as the usual ladies’ events. Novelty is the keynote of the life-saving event, as an attempt has been made to give spectators an event which is more like the real thing than the usual life-saving events. Another item of particular interest to swimmers will be a demonstration of the coacbaphono as used in the training of advanced swimming by the coach of the Zenith Swimming Club. This cbachaphoßO is the only one in use in the Southern Hemisphere, and has proved to bo of immense value during the short time it has been used. Special .seating accommodation has been arranged.
