NEW SOUTH WALES
CREATION OF NEW STATE ROYAL COMMISSION’S REPORT. Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, January 22. The report of the Royal Oommis. sioner (Mr Justice H. S. Nicholas), who last year inquired into the agitation for a new State within New South Wales, was tabled in the Legislative Assembly. The Commissioner declared that although no purely rural area could be recommended for self-govern-ment within the Commonwealth, he expressed the opinion that there were two areas suitable for self-government, one including the whole north coast of New England extending south to Newcastle, and the other embracing the whole of the central portion or the State, including Bathurst, Goulburn, and part of the Riverina. He recommended that a separate referendum should be taken in each of the affected areas in order to ascertain the opinion of the electors, while the Government should make information available concerning the advantages ■ and disadvantages of new self-govern-ing States.
