ZANE GREY THRILLER
•WAGON WHEELS’ FOR EMPIRE One of the most stirring adventures in the history of the conquest or the West comes to the screen of the Empire on Friday in the Paramount version of Zane Grey’s ‘ Wagon Wheels featuring Randolph Scott, Gad 1 atrick, Monte Blue, and Raymond flatten. Adapted from the well-known novel, ‘ Fighting Caravans,’ by Zane Grey, the picture is a stirring account ot the famous trip by the covered wagon caravan which took hardy pioneers into the untamed West to civilise it. It shows in a thrilling, dramatic style how they overcame the handicaps imposed by Nature, conquered the _ Indians who blocked their path, and in their human fashion even round time to indulge in romance. In this handsomely directed and mounted film, which details some of the actual and historic adventures that beset the sturdy pioneers who took the first wagon train across country in 1844 to Oregon, Scott plays the role of an Indaiu-fighting frontier scout. Ho wins the love of a lonely widow and her child, when he saves the entire caravan from death at the hands of savages. Monte Blue is excellent as the renegade half-breed, through whose evil machinations the wagon train is almost captured by Indians, and as Scott’s rival in love. Miss Patrick, who has recently 7 played dramatic characterisations in ‘ Death Takes a Holiday ’ and ‘ Murder at hte Vanities,’ is stunning, attractive, _ and extremely convincing as the heroine.
