NATIONAL WORKERS' MOVEMENT
A special meeting of the executive of the Dunedin Central branch of the National Unemployed Workers’ Movement was held on Monday evening, Mr G. Geddes (president) in the chair. The secretary read letters from the Otago Labour Representation; Committee and the Gore and Outram N. branches. The report from the Select Committee appointed to draw up a list of local demands for, the unemployed was received. The secretary was • instructed to write the O. and ask for co-operation in the immediate needs of the unemployed at present, and also for a list of speakers for open air meetings. It was agreed to hold a mass meeting of the unemployed on Thursday evening in the Trades Hall to discuss the new scheme that conies into operation on January 28, the secretary to make the necessary arrangements. It was reported that nearly all of the unemployed in the country districts had received notice to proceed to camps, it was agreed to send delegates to Gore, Outram, and other outlying districts. The following reso/hition was carried “ That the executive emphatically protest against the reductions upon these men with two and three children, and against the policy of substituting rations in lieu of cash.” _ Speakers were selected for the open-air meeting at the Museum Grounds on Sunday.
