MOTOR CAR TRIALS

THE MOHTE CARLO RALLY OVER FIFTY BRITISH COMPETITORS (British Official Wireless.) Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright RUGBY, January 21. (Received January 22, at noon.) There are fifty-five British entrants, representing one-third of the total, for the Monte Carlo Rally, which is generally recognised as the most severe winter motor car test. The entrants started their journey from various points cn Saturday, there being 'six Continental routes from Norway, Sweden, Esthonia, Rumania, Greece, and Sicily, and one across Britain starting from John o’ Groats. Of the twenty-three cars following the last-named route, all except one, which retired owing to the illness of a passenger, arrived at Folkestone this morning for the Channel crossing. The cars and their drivers have to reach Monte Carlo early on Wednesday, averaging twenty miles an hour from start to finish, with the exception that the speed has to bo increased to thirty miles per hour for the last 600 miles.
