Many shots were exchanged in a midnight battle at Cloghcr, near the Free State border, when ten masked .smugglers attempted to recapture 100 cattle which the Customs had seized and impounded. The raiders, m rounding up the cattle, disturbed the guards and the shooting stampeded the cattle, upon which the raiders lied across the border. Squads of Cus : toms police were called out, but were too late, except to round up the animals again.
