AUCKLAND WOOL SALE
SOME DISAPPOINTMENT FAIRLY HEAVY PASSINGS [Per (Jx-ited I’ress Association - . 1 AUCKLAND, January 22. - Tlic second Auckland wool side of the 1934-35 season- opened at the Town H;t 11. The offering exceeded 25,U0L) bid cs. The first catalogue, a small one, was quickly disposed of, but tho prices realised wore disappointing, even to those who were prepared for current rates. Lidding was keen at times, but on the whole unsatisfactory. With the second catalogue almost finished it appeared that the December rates, which it was hoped would be exceeded to-day, will not be equalled, '(.'here was a very 'considerable number of passings. With half the total offering disposed of, it appeared that the December Auckland rates, when 5Jd per lb was the average, might be exceeded, but only slightly. Medium and coarser sorts were selling about on a par with December rates, while better quality wools, which it had been hoped would advance, failed to do so. It appeared that from 20 to 25 per cent, was being passed unsold. The top price so far was 12,1 d for a few bales of Waiheke half-bred. The buying appeared well spread, with Germany and Japan both represented in the orders, but to what extent could not be ascertained. Bradford undoubtedly was taking the hulk of the wool sold.
