‘WAGON WHEELS’ BOOKED FOR EMPIRE
‘ Wagon Wheels,’ which ie booked for the Empire on Friday, is a stirring tale of life on the American frontier in the mid-nineteenth century. Nancy Wellington (Gail Patrick), after the death of her husband, takes her child from his father’s people, and flees to the sparsely-settled and much-disputed Oregon territory. The wagon train is threatened by Murdock (Monte Blue), a half-breed, by tribes or Indians, and by the usual trials and tribulations attending a 2,000-mile journey through an inhospitable wilderness. Clint Belmet (Randolph Scott), the young scout in charge of the train, brings it through' in spite of everything, and foils the machinations of Murdock. The story is based on Zane Grey’s ‘ Fighting Caravans,’ and has as its theme song, the melodious ‘ Wagon Wheels,’ composed by the author of ‘ The Last Round Up,’ and its logical successor in popularity.
