FINED FOR BOOKMAKING. Fourteen people who laid doubles witli Thomas Fisher on horses running at Trentham to-day may be doubly disappointed, for Fisher was arrested last night, and in court this morning confessed that he had been carrying oa the business of bookmaking. Twentysix nom de plumes were found on him,and the police also found the fourteen doubles mentioned. He was convicted by Mr Page, S.M., and fined £3O. It was stated that to the knowledge of the police the accused, since 1932, had been consistently carrying on the business of bookraaking at the Foresters’ Arms Hotel. It was also stated that apparently Fisher had fallen on bad times lately, and was down and out so far as his finances were concerned.—Wellington Press Association.
