BARRICADE ON ROAD
TAXI BREAKS THROUGH HOLD-UP SUGGESTED fPEK United Phess Association.] GREYMOUTH, January 21. A hold-up was attempted at 3.30 this morning on a lonely road beside the Grey River near Taylorville. A taxi driver, Leslie Hallinau, was taking home a passenger when he noticed a dark object on the roadside, but proceeded. Upon returning, however, he met a barricade of timber, and also a stone weighing about 561 b. When he pulled up he heard footsteps approaching behind. To try to go round the ob : stacle would have precipitated the taxi into the river, so Halilnan accelerated, and cleared the barricade, with no more damage than a broken spring. A police search after daybreak faded to disclose any vestige of a barricade.
