MANUFACTURERS’ TRIBUTE

LORD BLEDISLOE'S SERVICES At the recent annual meeting of the Dunedin Manufacturers’ Association it was resolved to place on record in the association’s minutes, and to forward to the Governor-General (Lord Bledisloe) the following excerpt from the president’s address: — On your behalf I desire at this stage to express our regret at the termination of office, as GovernorGeneral, of Lord Bledisloe. Ho has on more than one occasion visited several factories in Dunedin and shown a very definite interest in our works and our industrial progress. He has shown-great ability m the fulfilling of his high office and Ids last address in Dunedin, to the Chamber of Commerce, was n masterly review of the resources and possibilities of this dominion through the avenues of primary and secondary industries and tourist traffic. We express to His Excellency and Lady Bledisloe our best wishes and appreciation. Lord Bledisloe, in his reply to the association stated:— I have received your letter embodying the excerpt from the address of the president of the Dunedin * Manufacturers’ Association in its recent annual meeting, which has reference to my wife and myself. Will you please convey my warm thanks to your president for his generously appreciative remarks and to the members of the association for their endorsement of them P It is with unfeigned regret—amounting to sorrow—that we anticipate our severance with this dominion and its warmhearted friendly people. Nowhere has the goodwill that we have everywhere experienced been more marked than in the province of Otago. I have been deeply conscious that the manufacturers as well as 'the primary producers of this dominion have been passing through a period of much difficulty and embarrassment during the last throe years. My sincere sympathy with thorn has been accompanied by the confidence that the pluck and enterprise which they have displayed under adverse conditions will have their due reward when better times come.
