A woman passenger was killed and many people seriously injured, including the driver and fireman of the Rangoon to Mandalay express, which was derailed through the deliberate removal of the fishplates near a bridge 117 miles from Rangoon. . Three carriages crashed into a ditch, and were smashed to matchwood. The engine and sevaral other carriages capsized. Fortunately most of the wrecked carriages were empty, otherwise a heavy deathrol! would probably have resulted.
