APPRECIATION OF OLD BOYS
HIGH SCHOOL CRICKET TEAM The members of the Otago Boys’ High School first eleven, who recorded such a fine performance in the match with Christ’s College at Christchurch, were met on their arrival at Dunedin on Saturday by representatives of the Old Boys’ Association, those who attended including Messrs L. A. Rhodes (president), E. Webster, J. C. H. Somerville, F. H. Campbell, J. Fraser (president of the Otago Cricket Association), R. W. S. Betting, and the rector (Mr H. P. Kidson). The players were congratulated on the good game they had played, and on behalf of the old boys Mr Webster presented N. Farrell, who made a century in the match, with a bat. Mr Webster remarked that it was eight years since such a presentation had bfeen made, D. Y. Allen being the last to receive a similar token for compiling a century. A fine sporting gesture was shown by the Christ’s College team. At the conclusion of the College second innings Otago needed 56 runs for an outright win, and College, instead of taking the ten minutes to change over to which they were entitled, took only three minutes. Otago then went in to bat, but finished 19 runs short when stumps were drawn.
