NORTH-EAST HARBOUR NEWS

The Macandrew Bay tennis courts' presented an animated scene on Saturday afternoon, the occasion being thq official opening of the season. Two new; courts have just been completed at considerable cost. .\ Co-operation. between the School. Committee and the T'ennis Club has■ resulted in the raising of a considerable sum towards i the expense, Mr W. Milward, chairman of tha School Committee, briefly addressed those present and wished the club u successful season,. as also, did Mr A., M'Cutcheon (chairman of the Ratepayors’ Association) and Mr A. T. Jensen (president O.L.T. Association). Mr H. Gregory, the Macandrew Bay Club’s president, declared-the season open, and the first ball was then played by Mrs Milward and Mrs Gregory. Following this exhibition sets were played between A. T. Jensen and W, Sherriff v. S, Faulkner and R. Phillips and E. Duthia and Mrs Tyrell v. J. B. Deaker and , Mrs Shurrock, these games being, followed with much interest. Afternoon tea was afterwards provided. A crowded hall in the evening listened to an enjoyable concert, to which the following contributed items;—* Songs, Mr C. Hawes: song; Mr Kellett;’ duet, Misses S. and R. Vivian; novelty march and rhythmic dance, Standard* ; I. and II girls; recitation, Jim Knox;i pianoforte duet, Misses D. Goodlet and E. M'Evoy; caravan march, Mr Stokes and- Mrs Barkman; club swinging,-, Misses M. ‘Mackintosh, H. Howie. R, Vivian, and R. Hook; ballet, Misses W. Barkman, P. Nelson, M. Sutton* Y. -Davies, M. Kellas; J. Reid, M, Weir, E. Robinson, P. M'Evoy, A* Neilson: chorus. Messrs M'Evoy, Gregory, Hawes, Gibson,; Fountain, Maokay, and B. and S. Scott.
