AMATEUR ATHLETICS
EVENING MEETING The weekly sports meeting of the Otago Centre, New Zealand Athletic Association was held at the Caledonian Grounds last evening. The ground was in good order, but a strong breeze from the bay end of the grounds was not conducive to fast times, in the sprint events. There were, good entries in all the events, and some fine finishes were witnessed. The following are the results : 100 YARDS LADIES’ HANDICAP. H. Ferguson, 44yds 1 I Fogarty, 4iyds A. Donaldson, Byds o Seven starters. Won by a foot, with half a yard between second and third. Time, 12 4-ssec. 75 YARDS HANDICAP. First Heat.—J. Ramsay (syds) 1, A. B Thomson (Jvd) 2. Seven starters. Won by 2yds. Time, 8 l-ssec. Second Heat. —J. Hardie (3yds) 1, H. A. Brown (4*yds) 2. Six starters. Won by a yard' and a-half. Time, 8 l-ssec. . Third Heat.—J. Shepherd (4yds) 1, A. J. Anderson took the .lead going down the back, and led into the straight. R. M'Lachlan challenged, and, in a good finish, won by a yard, with three yards separating second and third; Time, 51 2-ssee. HALF-MILE JUNIOR HANDICAP. G. Davie, 15yds , •«. ••• T C. A. Broad, scr - H. Whitaker, 20yds 3 Twelve starters. At the bell the order was M'Farland,- M’Levie, and MTntyre, with the field close up. Austin, ISOyds ... ... ... 3 Seven starters. With four laps to go Pullar led Austin by 20yds, with .Curtis 10yds back. Running very easily, Pullar won by 50yds, with Austin 20yds back third. Laws, 90yds 3 Twelve starters. With three laps to go Ralston led Templeton, Sivertsen, and Laws, with the rest of the field 20yds back. At the bell Sivertsen and Ralston led hv 20yds.
