MONDAY. NOVEMBER 19. (Before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M.) '■DRUNKENNESS. “ This woman is going down faster and deeper,” said Senior-sergeant MacLean when Sarah Elizabeth Smith pleaded guilty to a charge of drunkenness. Smith, who was warned that she was committing a breach of probation by getting drunk, was convicted and discharged. MAINTENANCE. An application bv John Cecil Donaldson (Mr W. H. Carson) for a variation of a maintenance order was refused, but arrears over £5 were remitted. ■ Arrears amounting to £.56 17s 6d on October 15 were admitted bv John William M'Donald. who was charged with default of a maintenance order. Mr'O. appeared for complainant. The arrearsAvere cancelled, and the order was suspended for three month"., defendant having given evidence that he was unfit to do any .work. William Janies Duller Downes applied for a variation of a maintenance order. Mr John Garbutt (maintenance officer) opposed the application, which was adjourned to allow Downes an Opportunity to find work. Further evidence was heard in the application against James Henry SargisOn (Mr B. S. Irwin) for an order for the maintenance of his wife (Mr J. B. Thomson).—The Magistrate said that since the claim was commenced Mrs Sargison had died, and it was now being continued for the purpose <?f obtaining funeral expenses. The wife’s death was unknown to defendant, and the death notice did not state that she was his wife. He was unable to find that the deceased was destitute. The application .would be dismissed.
