PREPARATIONS COMPLETED

SHOW ENTRIES SATISFACTORY FULL PROGRAMME FOR PEOPLES' DAY Tabuna Park is in excellent condition for the opening of the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society’s annual Summer Show to-morrow. The period of warm weather experienced in the last fortnight has had a strengthening effect on the growth of the grass, while the early morning rain was most beneficial, especially to the enclosure. There is every indication that the fixture will be a complete success, and should warm weather favour the event, it is more than probable that the attendance of the public will exceed those of former years. Preparations for the reception and storage of the cattle were completed this morning, while the sheep and pig pens were already erected and numbered. The bulk of the entries of live stock are expected to be on the ground by to-night, the remainder being required by to-morrow morning, as the judging is to start at 10 o’clock. All breeds of cuttle, sheep, and pigs will be placed before the judges to-morrow, and in addition the sheep-dog trials and maiden events will be contested. Entries in most classes arc quite satisfactory, and it is gratifying to the committee to know that the totals in some of the sheep classes are double those of last ysar. There is also a full catalogue of fat pigs, and it is expected that the competition between live stock breeders will be keen and full of interest.

In connection with the shearing competition, four entrants will take part at one time, each having his own pen ol three Romney cross hoggets, which will be balloted for before the contest commences. The jumps for the various equestrian events have been placed in position, and visitors are assured of witnessing some entertaining and exciting competition. On- the second day of the show— Peoples’ Day—the judging of the Clydesdale breeding classes, draught horses, harness horses,’hackneys, cobs, ponies, and trades turn-outs will be commenced at 9 a.m. A full programme of handicap and championship events, including a hunting competition, sawing, chopping, dog trial championship, leaping championship, ladies’ pig novelty race in harness, and rodeo and steer riding will be presented during the afternoon, commencing at 12.30,
