A gang of amateur thieves was busy in Christchurch early .on Saturday, when a number of city business premises were entered in clumsy fashion, but little was taken. The main damage was to shop doors and equipment. In the Police Court to-day Frederick Francis Charles O’Connor, aged twenty-six, appeared on a charge that, at Hamilton on October 11, with intent to defraud, he obtained from the Waikato County Council a cheque for £lO 7s 3d by means of a false pretence. A. remand was granted till next Saturday on the application of the police. —Wanganui Press Association.
