BRITISH ISRAELISM.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I have waited to sec if an abler pen than mine would comment on the statement of . the Moderator of the General Assembly on British Israelism, that it debauched the minds of the young'people. Wherein does the debauchery lie? Is it because British Israelism believes in the creation of the world, the animals, of man, of the day of rest, and of Adam, and that 'the whole Bible is God’s word and therefore true, whereas theology as taught by our professors states that the first part of the Book of Genesis is a myth ? Have not Presbyterians the right to think that this teaching- in our Theological College debauches the minds of our youth? A parent teaches his son that the word of God is true, but in a few years the professors say “Oh, no! You must not believe all that. It is merely folk lore and cannot be accepted as fact.” How do you know? Aro they more divinely inspired than Moses ? Man has many marvellous works. By electricity and wireless telephony we can hear our King’s voice at the uttermost ends of the earth—something undreamed of twenty years ago. Yet though all things are possible with God our professors cannot conceive that the Creator made man in His own image, not that of a gibbering ape. Christ believed in the prophets and the Jewish Bible (our Old Testament), and taught therefrom. He said: “1 come not to destroy but to fulfil ” (the word of God).' He also said “ If it were not so, I would have told you.” And' most assuredly, if the Old Testament were untrue He would have told His disciples. Now regarding the statement that British Israelism must not be accepted by Presbyterians because of the Assembly’s pronouncement against war, does Professor Dickie not believe the Bible, for all the Prophets foretell a great war just prior to the Second Coming of our-Lord? Read especially Ezekiel xxxviii. and xxxix. But the General Assembly has condemned war! Whom are we to believe, the General Assembly or God ? In Matthew xxiii. Christ in no uncertain terms condemns the Scribes and Pharisees that sit in Moses’ seat.

British Israelism has much ij commend it, if it be only to open our eyes to our national danger of- utter unpreparedness in an arm.ed world ripe for mischief. Christ told us to “ watch,” and a watchman must be armed. It we believe in our’Lord's 'coming we must be prepared to fight for Him.— I am, etc., ■', R. Hild. November 17.
