CENTENARY GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS

MELBOURNE, November 19. (Received November 19,, at' 2 p.m.) J. M'Lean, the Scottish champion, won the gold cup for the best performance by an amateur. The amateur championship began this morning. HAWKE'S BAY T.G. A decision to go into recess for one year was arrived at by tho Hawke’s Bay Trotting Club on Saturday, but the club will retain ijts permit. One of the principal reasons for this decision is that the death of_ one prominent-local owner and the retirement of others has removed a great deal of support from the club. WATER POLO Dunedin A and Kiwi A will meet at the Otago Centre’s polo hour at the Municipal Baths to-morrow night, the teams being:— Kiwi A: D. Pickard, 0. Holland, D. Shanahan, M. Taylor, P. E. Mathieson, Reg. Geddes, and A. Thomas; emergencies, A. J, Leeden and W. A. Black. Dunedin A; P. W. Harkess, B. Kerr, J. 0. Byrnes, J. D. O’Driscoll, D. Newall, J. Barry, and C. W. Elliott. Prior to this game St. Clair B will meet St. Kilda in the B grade match, commencing as soon after 8.30 as possible.
