Thomas Patrick Coghlau, aged nineteen, was granted probation for two years by Air Justice Ostler in the Supreme Court, Napier, for indecent assault on a girl. Traffic on the main highway between Christchurch and Nelson is frequently held up because of flooding on the road. Recently the South Island Motor Union wrote to the Alain Highways Board asking that alterations be made at certain points—Rai Valley, Canvastown, south of Seddon, south of Kaikoura, and Ferniehurst. The Alotor Union last night had before it the reply of the Highways Board stating that plans had been considered, or were under consideration lor all the points mentioned, and.it was hoped all the works would be commenced if not completed during this season.
