MAN DIES ON BEN LOMOND
200 YARDS FROM SUMMIT After an aeroplane had been used on August 3, in the search for a man lost on Ben Lomond, his body was found by two visitors, SUDyds from the summit. They did not know anyone was missing. The dead climber, Mi William Lippiatt, of Glasgow, was aged sixty-five. . Mr Lippiatt drove with friends to Kinlochard, on the Aberloylo side ol the mountain, on the morning of August 2, and set out alone to climb Ben Lomond and across to Uowardeunun, where the car party was to meet him. As he did not appear after several hours, his friends raised the alarm. Search was made from both sides of the mountain, but the searchers returned unsuccessful early on August 3, when a fresh search was organised. The aeroplane was forced to, return owing to the heavy mists. Searchers on foot were driven back by drenching rain and mist, which became so dense that thev themselves were in peril. . The police took no part in tno search, the reason being that there are two counties—Perthshire and Stirlingshire—in the area and no lead had been given by either police force. It was understood that a shepherd warned Mrs Lippiatt not to continue the ascent. The height of Ben Lomond Is 3.192 ft.
