ARRESTED IN ERROR
UNFORTUNATE EXPERIENCE An unfortunate experience; befell Mr Percy Everest, of Maidstone, for after he had gone to the assistance of a constable who was being attacked, ho found himself arrested when police reinforcements arrived. Amends were made when, in the local court, ho was thanked by the mayor, Alderman William Dnv. for going to the assistance of the police. “It is unfortunate that you got run in as well,” the Mayor added. . It was slated that at night there was a disturbance in Maidstone High Street. Constable Finn was struggling on the erround with Cyril Porter, and was surrounded by a ’crowd of several hundred people, when Everest went to his assistance, Everest seized the constable s truncheon and began to heat off Porter. Other police arrived, and in the melee which followed Everest was arrested with Porter and taken to the police station. Porter was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment for assaulting tho officer, and fined 10s for being drunk and disorderly.
