MAY PROLONG SESSION

DAIRY INDUSTRY LEGISLATION IMMEDIATE REMEDIAL MEASURES [From Our Parliamentary Reporter.] WELLINGTON, September 13. The members of the Dairy Commission conferred with Cabinet this morning concerning the recommendations which had been made to the Government for the rehabilitation of the dairy industry. The discussion centred on the legislation which the Government proposes to bring down this session, and the members of the commission explained their views on the necessity for urgent action. Mr Forbes said later that legislation would be prepared as soon as possible. The material was now in the hands of the law draughtsman, and as soon as a Bill had been framed it would be revised by Cabinet and in its final shape brought before the House.

“ The Government realises that the present condition of the dairy industry cannot be allowed to continue,” said the Prime Minister, “ and it is of paramount importance that the remedial measures should bo taken this session. The legislation will be comprehensive, and it is just possible that it will be necessary to prolong the session somewhat to put it through.”
