CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP

THE WELLINGTON TEAM The Wellington, Canterbury, Auckland, and Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay teams for the New Zealand cross-coun-try championship at Wingatui on Saturday will arrive by his afternoon’s express. The Wellington team will be:— A. .1. Stevens (Scottish), managercaptain, captain of Scottish Harriers. Has won the provincial championships three, times, Bennett Memorial Road Race six times, Vosseler ten-mile race five times, Borne Cup five-mile race twice. Has been in representative team since 1928, and ran well at each New Zealand championship race. Is thirtytwo years of age. A. Barclay (Brooklyn). Been in Wellington representative team ' seven times. First in' representative team 1921. Always run well at New Zealand championship, though he has not gained a better position than third. Represented New Zealand at Australasian championships in 1923, but was ill with influenza and did not perform well. Very steady’and dependable man. Splendid teamer. Is thirty-two years of age. G. C. Prosser (Brooklyn). 1931, first Borne Cup and provincial championship and Vosseler race and second Bennett Road Race. 1934, first Borne Cup, first provincial championship, and third Vosseler race. Represented Wellington in 1931-32. Was not available last year. He was Wellington three-mile champion twice and second in three-mile New Zealand championship to R. A. Rose in 1931. Brilliant runner when in form. Is twenty-six years of age. J. Riddington (Scottish). Second year in sport. Best “ find ” this year. First year he finished either first or second in all B grade interclub races. This year first Vosseler race, second provincial championships, third Borne Cup race. Has great future ahead of him in distance running. Twenty-two years of age. B. S. Woodley (Scottish). Young runner who has been ’ steadily forging to the front in the last two or three years. Club champion last year. Finished in first six places in Borne, Vosseler, and Wellington championship tins year. Shows great promise, being keen and consistent. C. Chalk (Wellington). Been running for a few years, but has not taken on the sport seriously till his season ; very promising runner if train seriously. Last year ran fifth in B grade (provincial championships). This year he was second in the club championship and third in the Wellington cross-coun-try championship. Also good distance track man. This year should perform well over one-mile track. Is twenty-one years of age.
