At the British Association for the Advancement of Science a demonstration was given of a new type of motor cycle silencer, which it is claimed will eliminate the noise.of a machine’s exhaust, atod has been perfected as the result of investigations made following an inquiry into the question of decreasing street noises. Sir Henry Fowler, chairman of the association’s committee, which has been investigating the subject, and who is now chairman of the Ministry of Transport Committee edealing with the same question, attended a trial which was carried out by Wing-commander Cave-Browne-Cave, who stated that not only was a great reduction in noise, effected, but when compared with many other types of silencers resulted in a small increase in horse-power.
