Sanders, p. member of the Otago Central Power Board, imparted some interesting information to a meeting of the Cromwell Borough Council on Thursday night last. He said that the board’s Aleg scheme was now au assured success, due to guarantees given by two gold dredging companies with which the board bad made contracts for the supply of power. One of these companies bad already deposited £I2,QUO, of which £3,000 bad been remitted to New Zealand, and the board now had the use of the same, while £9,000 was placed to the credit of the board, with the bank in London, and another contract with a second company had been signed by which a deposit of £14,000 was made. This total sum of £26,000, on which the board would pay 4 per cent., was a substantial part of the coat of the head works at the Aleg. The scheme now only required the sanction of the Loans Board to the raising of a sum of £12,000. British generators would be purchased, and a considerable saving in exchange would be effected by the utilisation at Horae of the funds from the two British dredging companies.
