Oldfield and Ebeling batted brightly, and the innings closed after 350 minutes’ play. Eames’s figures to-day were: 8.3 overs, 4 maidens, 19 runs, 4 wickets. Sutcliffe and Wyatt opened with extreme caution. The total was only 12 when the latter lost his leg stump. Sutcliffe drove a ball straight to Bradman at raid-off, and ran, but Leyland refused to run, and a smart return saw Sutcliffe run out.
