RUGBY FOOTBALL.
TO THE EDITOK. «Sir,~ Many Rugby followers wish to know’why Martin was played at first five-eighth instead of Trevathan. Maitin is a second five-eighth, and was not even announced as an emergency, vet he was sent on to the held before Trevathan, who is a sound player and who was in readiness to take the field. This was a very questionable act on the part of the selectors. Good judges of the game also cannot understand why Taylor is still retained as an emergency. As a full-back he displayed merely average form all the season, but was selected as an emei'gency for the Otago team. When a new full-hack was Silver and not Taylor was selected. Taylor, however, was still retained as emergency. Evidently "to justify their action tne selectors played Taylor at centre the following Saturday. Taylor, of course, cannot be blamed for the poor display lie gave, as ho did not ask to play out of postion. A clear statement by the selectors of their policy would be appreciated. At present, however, it appears that a change in the personnel is very necessary.—l am, etc., Explanation. September 11.
