GRAIN AND PRODUCE. Messrs Donald Reid and Co. Ltd. report:— Wheat.—There is very little happening in the milling wheat market. An odd line is still being submitted for approval, and if satisfactory is accepted by the board at current rates —viz., Tuscan 4s 104 d, Hunters, 5s Did, Velvet 5s 24d, sacks extra, f.0.b., main ports. Otago farmers are experiencing •difficulty in getting their spring wheat sown; the soil is still in unworkable condition, and unless conditions improve wheat sowing will'be abandoned and some other crop substituted. The fowl wheat market has firmed and suitable lines are getting scarce. Holders are asking equivalent to milling rates for their holdings, the possibility of u shortage next season no doubt influencing them to a certain extent. Good whole fowl wheat is being quoted at 3s 9d, f.0.b., sacks extra. Small lots ox store realise up to 4s per bushel, sacks extra. Oats.—The firming in this market is well maintained, but little business is passing. Growers with good heavy oats are not interested iii the prices offering. A few sales were recorded at Is lOd; sacks extra, but no sellers can now be found at this figure. Nominal values remain as follow:—A grade Is lOd, B grade Is 7d, sacks extra, on trucks, country sidings. ■ Chaff.—The local stores are well stocked with this commodity; sales of any quantity are a rarity. Consignments from the country will probably slacken now that the usual spring operations will be claiming the farmers’ attention. This will assist in clearing out the stores before the wool season begins. Good oaten sheaf is worth £3 15s, sacks extra, ex truck, for full truck lots. £4 5s is the equivalent price ex store for small quantities. Medium is worth from £2 15s to £3 10s. sacks extra. Potatoes.—Nothing of importance is happening in this market. There are ample potatoes, both seed and table, held in store for all inquiries. Northern consignments are still coming to hand, owners of apparently realising that there is little chance of improvement in values this season. Best freshly-picket tables are worth up to £3 per ton, ex store, Dunedin, sacks in. Arran Chief seed are worth £2 10s and £3 per ton, and King Edwards £5 per ton, ex store, sacks in.
