BRADMAN’S 2,000 RUNS
ANOTHER CENTURY ON YORKSHIRE GROUND AN EXHILARATING DISPLAY Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, September 8. The Australians commenced a match against Levoson-Gower’s eleven to-day. The weather was delightful and the wicket good, and the attendance was 14,000. Bromley, Wall, Grimmett, and Kippax are standing down from the Australian team. Leveson-Gowers eleven is as follows: —R. ,E. S. Wyatt, J. H. Human, K. Fames, H. Sutcliffe, M. Leyland, H. Verity, E. Hendren, D. C. H Townsend, M. S. Nichols, W. E. Bowes, and G. Duckworth. Woodfull won the toss and batted. Brown was early dismissed by one of Leveson-Gower’s fast battery, after which the amazing Bradman gave one of his most exhilarating displays, scoring 132, including twenty-four 4’s and one 6, in ninety 7 minutes. It was a fitting climax to this great batsman’s display on the present tour. He is also the first Australian to complete 2,000 runs. Fames might have had Bradman caught at 14, Wyatt, in the gully, missing a difficult catch. Thereafter he punished all the bowlers mercilessly, taking 19 off one of Verity’s overs. Thus he has scored a century on each appearance on the Yorkshire ground in the current season. He was stumped when trying a big hit off Verity. Ponsford went on quietly and soundly. M'Cabe, when 6, was missed by Verity, who started too slowly 7. Ponsford was out when he drove’one hard hack to the bowler, Nichols. He batted for 150 minutes, and hit ten. 4’s. Woodfull was unhappy against Bowes, but fell a victim to Verity after a dull half-hour.
Darling hit right across one from Bowes and lost his off stump.
Chipperfield was at first subdued, but eventually settled down, and he’ and M'Cabe were batting vigorously when stumps were drawn, although M'Caha was badly missed at 92 and 111 off Verity and Bowes respectively. Details:—
