The St. _ Kilda Band seldom fails to reach a high standard in its performances, and last night’s playing proved one of the best expositions of concerted band work heard here for a considerable time. Colvin, an artistic cornet soloist, played ‘ The Heart of a Rose,’ the organ accompaniment being played by Mr A. Pefctitt. Miss Elvira Wycherley, an accomplished ’cello soloist, was enthusiastically received by the large audience, an encore being demanded. Mr Rees M'Conacliy played the violin solo, ‘ The Dance of the Goblins.’ This number was played in masterly style, and the audience was not slow to show its appreciation of a fine effort, ,a double encore being called for. Mr E. G. Jolmson, tho only vocalist on the programme, was in excellent voice and was heard to advantage in the song. ‘ My Ain Wee Hoose,’ his encore number being the ‘ Border Ballad.’ Mr E. Andrews played 1 The Parade of the Tin Soldiers ’ as a marimba solo, the encore number being ‘ Souvenir.’ ’ Misses C. Colbert and Sybil Baker wore the accompanists.
