CHRISTA WINSLOE PLAY
Barbara Burnham’s adaptation of the three-act play by Christa Winsloe, ‘ Children in Uniform,’ is to be presented locally by the pupils of Miss Anita Winkel. Followers of the theatre are usually apt to look askance at newcomers to the stage, favouring those whose reputations behind the footlights have already been highly established; but it must be agreed that the cultivation of youthful talent is a very commendable act on the part of any producer. When ‘ Children in Uniform ’ commences a three nights’ season in the Concert Chamber on September 20 the public will realise that Dunedin has unmistakable talent, other than that already shown. Miss Winkel has selected a particularly strong cast of young artists, capable of doing full justice to ‘ Children in Uniform,’ which was placed by the publishers in the list of the best plays of 1932-33. All the players are at present rehearsing diligently. Special scenic backgrounds are being constructed, and the tracking and other effects arc receiving attention, so that there is every indication that iho production will experience a .successful season. The proceeds will be handed over to the Dunedin Free Kindergarten Association. Box plan arrangements are advertised in this issue.
