VICTORIAN CHAMPIONSHIP MELBOURNE, September 6. Harry L. Williams to-day won the Victorian amateur championship, defeating M. J. Ryan 8 and 6. A returned soldiers’ golf tournament waa promoted here , to-day, and, judging by the support accorded it, it will become an-annual event and will probably develop into a contest of dominion significance. Players were drawn according to regiments, and it was discovered that all regiments in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, as well as other Empire regiments, were represented. The Coldstream Guards and the Middlesex Regiment were two outside New Zealand. Players came from many clubs along the west coast of the North Island. ' The championship was won by A. E. Ekstcd (Palmerston North), who took the challenge tin hat; The Anzao stroke handicap was won by J. W. Anderson (Brunswick), and the Gallipoli bogey handicap by D. H. Strachan (Karioi).'
