ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL

TO THE EDITOR. i Sir, —Judging by the reports of the Management Committee meetings of the Otago Football Association for some time past it seems a pity that the officials of clubs and the controlling body do not act in accordance with the principles of true sport. Firstly, we find that the season has been extended to one grade, while a higher grade has been closed, allowing its players to be re-graded to a lower grade. Then wo find two junior clubs lodging complaints with the Management Committee and being told that everything is in order, as the rules permit such regrading. Secondly, following these complaints, a deputation from one club waits on the Management Committee, and the speakers claim to bo veiy indignant because their club has been criticised for taking advantage of the transfer rules. Thirdly, at the following meeting we find that the deputation again waits on the Management Committee and retracts the remarks made at the previous meeting—surely a very weak-kneed attitude for any spokesman to take ’ up. I take it that when a deputation waits on the Management Committee in future, one might say anything one likes, and at a later date say one did not mean what was said. From every angle the present season has been most unsuccessful, and it is the plain duty of everyone interested in the sport to do his best to put a stop to anything that is not in the best interest of the game.—l am, o-c., Disgusted.
